The Leadership Party stands for fundamental rights and freedoms. Fundamental rights are rights that are fundamental to the life and wellbeing of human beings. They are rights that are so important and so closely tied to life on earth that we cannot imagine living in a world without them. Things such are the right to life, the right to privacy, freedom of speech and freedom of association. Can you imagine a world in which like minded individuals, who have no intention to break the law, cannot come together in one place and chat and enjoy each other’s company? Can you imagine a world in which you cannot tell others how you feel about their words and actions in society?

Can you imagine a world in which every post that you make on social media is scrutinised, censored and sometimes deleted under the guise of “fact-checking”? That is the world that we currrently live in.

We live in a world that wants to destroy the distinction between fundamental rights and other rights. We live in a world that will allow the personal whims and fancies of others to take precedence over fundamental rights. That is the world that some want Barbadians to live in but Barbados was not built on the whims and fancies of others. Barbados was built on the hard work of men and women. Barbados was built on the backs of fathers and mothers who worked hard in the cane fields, worked hard in the tourism industry and even left this Island to work to provide a better way of living for their families.

That is the Barbados that we want to protect and preserve and the only way to do that is to protect and preserve our fundamental rights and freedoms. Therefore, we join with all Barbadians and declare that we stand for fundamental human rights.
