The motto on our Coat of Arms is: Pride and Industry<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barbados has come a long way in its development since independence. That development was not only possible because of financial investments but our development came about because of the pride that Barbadians had in themselves and in their country. Not only that, Barbadians had a love for industry. Whether it was agriculture, entrepreneurship or the service industry, Bajans worked hard at them for the benefit of themselves, their families and the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2025, that bajan pride and industry is quickly slipping away. Our education system is failing our young boys and girls. Our criminal justice system is not helping our delinquent young men and women to become rehabilitated and make a valuable contribution to society. There are not many opportunities for work for those graduating from secondary and tertiary education. We seem to be a nation sitting down waiting for the next international loan and a people sitting down waiting for the next hand-out from the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is time that our government doesn’t just extend its hands to give us what we need but to extend its hands to help us stand on our own two feet so we can work and grab hold of what we need ourselves. It is time for Barbadians to be able to afford their own land and build their own (comfortable) homes, instead of waiting on the Government to present homes which are too small or which fall apart within months. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is time that our vendors on the road and our vendors in the markets are treated with the respect that they deserve. A government must not only have pride in the amount of foreign reserves it has but it must have pride in its people. When we restore our bajan pride and industry, we will not have to beg those who are outside to invest. Those who are outside will be begging to invest in our country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
